My Funny Valentines

We had a wonderful Valentine's weekend here at the Nelson home. My parents kept the kids Saturday afternoon and Cody and I went to lunch and then saw "Just Go With It". We both really liked it and enjoyed it a lot. Carley had seen some rollers at dollar store and really wanted to try them so Saturday night she wanted her hair rolled. Of course they came out a bed time because she couldn't get comfortable, but I thought she looked so cute wearing them. Here is her little brother in pjs too!
Sunday Cody worked so I took the kids to church. I thought they looked super sweet as my little cupids.

Monday was Valentines and we loved exchanging cards and gifts. The kids and I gave Cody a basket of thing
s to help him study. It had motrin, 5 hour energy drink, sunflower seeds, a starbucks gift card, candy, silly putty, a crossword puzzle book, and pringles. Carley definitely worked hard to pick the items. She also wrote her own card for Cody which was the sweetest card I had ever seen. She wrote all by herself "Happy Valentine's Day, Dad!" I can't wait to be on B shift with you and I love to give you a 100,000 hugs. Love, Carley". Carley got some books and candy from us and Corey got some bath books and a firetruck. The both loved their loot. Cody gave me some chocolates and a really sweet card. That day at work I was SO surprised. Cody sent me a beautiful flower arrangement of red roses, white daisies, and pink carnations. He later surprised me when he had a quartet come serenade me. It was so sweet. He also had balloons, a monkey, and a single rose sent to Carley at school. She felt SO special. He did all of this without me knowing! That afternoon was Carley's Valentines Party and school dance. She loved doing the Chicken Dance and Cha-Cha Slide with her friends. It was hilarious.
That night we spent at home eating pizza and being together. It was a great day. Happy Valentine's!

Swirling Thoughts

Here are so random and not so random things that have been going on:

1. I read a couple of books I really liked. One was Water for Elephants and the other was Black Heels to Tractor Wheels which is the Pioneer Woman book. Water for Elephants was a very thought provoking book. I can't wait to see the movie. Black Heels was Hilarious! It is a must read!

2. We lost a sweet family friend this week. "Papa" who along with his wife Granny, kept Carley for the first 2 years of Carley's life. They are the sweetest and most loving and gentle couple. Papa lost his battle with cancer this week. We will miss him. When Cody and I sat Carley down and told her that Papa had gone to Heaven, her first word was "Awesome! He gets to go to Heaven!" Then this sad look came over her face and she said, "But, oh mommy, I am going to miss him so much".

3. Both kids are loving their school right now and it makes drop off such a blessing! Corey goes straight to his teacher, Ms. Dianne and calls her "Di-Di". It makes me so happy each day.

4. Carley is going on her first field trip this week. They are going to Chuck-E-Cheese. I always thought I would be the mom that goes on field trips, but I am glad to be missing one to that lovely restaurant with 40 kids!

5. We have more cold weather in the past week than we have had all winter. We even had a snow day where we missed school and 2 late arrival days! It was wonderful to have that time with my family.

6. I had a dear friend miscarry at 11 weeks this week. It is such a sad thing to watch friends go through. It reminds me each time how sad, hard, and emotional that time for us was and also how thankful we are for the blessing of Corey (and Carley). Each time we sing, "Had it not been the Lord" at church tears roll down my face. I praying for the same answered prayer for this couple.

7. I am still watching ridiculous TV (i.e. the Bachelor, Modern Family, the Office, Grey's, Parenthood, Private Practice, Off the Map, the Soup) and I still should not. I digress.

Hope you are having a good week!
